Meet Robert Dobson

Robert has spent his entire life putting others first. A devoted husband and father of four, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family, while his wife created a warm and welcoming home where their children, and often the neighborhood kids, gathered to skate in the winter and share meals together. Their home was a place of connection, laughter, and community.

In August 2022, Robert and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, a milestone that reflected a lifetime built side by side. Just months later, Robert faced an unimaginable loss when she passed away suddenly, followed soon after by the loss of their beloved 16-year-old dog.

Even in the quiet that followed, Robert has continued forward with strength and grace. A man of deep faith, he remains connected through his church, time spent with fellow seniors, and volunteering with a local group known as the “boys’ club.” He is a proud grandfather of five and finds joy cheering on his grandson at the Halifax Forum, often using the same cowbell his wife once rang to call their children home.

Hockey has always been a constant in Robert’s life, stretching back to his younger years when he worked as an usher, watching games for just a few dollars a night. Yet, despite a lifelong love for the game, he had never experienced an NHL game in person.

That changed when Robert’s wish came true, and he attended his very first Montreal Canadiens game. Surrounded by the energy of the arena, he proudly held up signs sharing that it was his first game, a simple gesture that quickly turned into something unforgettable. When he appeared on the jumbotron, fans around him took notice, offering cheers, congratulations, and sharing in his joy as though he were one of their own.

For Robert, it was more than a hockey game. It was a moment of connection, celebration, and pure happiness.

For a man who has spent a lifetime giving to others, this experience became a powerful reminder that joy can still arrive in deeply meaningful ways. Robert’s story is one of love, resilience, and community, and this wish was not just about seeing a game, but about being seen, and celebrated, in return.
