Meet George Teron

George has spent nearly his entire life bringing stories to life. While audiences applauded the actors on stage, George was the artist behind the scenes, designing the worlds that made those performances unforgettable.

Born in Windsor, Ontario, George discovered his love of art as a child and never looked back. For more than 50 years, he volunteered with Windsor Light Opera, now known as Windsor Light Music Theatre, becoming an award-winning set designer and stage manager whose creativity transformed empty stages into captivating worlds. Theatre became a true family affair, with his wife Joyce and their three daughters all taking part in productions over the years.

His creativity extended far beyond the theatre. Throughout his career, George built sets and props, designed stages, volunteered with Easter Seals for more than 30 years, helped restore the historic Spitfire aircraft at Windsor Airport, and received the Mayor's Award for the Arts for his extraordinary contributions to the community.

After losing his beloved wife Joyce in 2024 and facing the limitations that come with age, one dream remained tucked away on George's bucket list.

Although he had spent more than half a century creating unforgettable theatre experiences for others, he had never had the opportunity to visit the Stratford Festival himself.

Thanks to the incredible team at the Stratford Festival, George's wish became far more than simply attending a performance. He explored the prop room, toured the wardrobe department, visited the rehearsal hall, stepped backstage, and even watched the remarkable stage changeover after the final curtain, an experience few audience members ever witness.

For a man who spent his life creating theatre from behind the curtain, it was an unforgettable day.

After a lifetime of creating worlds for audiences to escape into, George finally had the chance to be the one sitting in the audience, simply taking it all in.

His wish wasn't just about seeing a play. It was about celebrating a lifetime dedicated to the arts and reminding an extraordinary man that the magic he spent so many years creating for others could, at last, be created just for him.
