Marg Sullivan, 81
Meet Marg Sullivan, 81.
Growing up as one of twelve children, Marg learned early on that life’s challenges were never roadblocks—just stepping stones. Raised by a strong Cree mother who instilled in her the belief to “find a way,” Marg carried that lesson with her through every hardship. A learning disability didn’t stop her from becoming a dedicated nurse. Life’s uncertainties never swayed her commitment to caring for others. And even after 27 years of nursing, when her husband’s battle with Alzheimer’s became her newest role as a caregiver, she faced it with the same unwavering strength. But through it all, Marg never stopped dreaming.
For as long as she could remember, Sable Island had called to her. A remote stretch of sand off the coast of Nova Scotia, known for its wild ponies, towering dunes, and endless waves—it symbolized freedom, adventure, and the untamed spirit she had carried within her all her life. In her younger years, she’d joke with fishermen, saying all she needed was a kayak and a gust of wind to get there. But between raising a family, serving her community, and facing her own battles—including cancer—Sable Island remained just that: a dream.
Until now. Marg finally set foot on the island she had imagined for decades, on a beautiful September day. Stepping onto the sand, she felt the wind whip through her hair, the cool Atlantic waters touching her toes—just as she had always envisioned. It wasn’t just about the destination; it was about proving that dreams don’t expire with age. Even after a recent knee replacement, Marg’s adventure was a testament to the power of resilience, hope, and the belief that it’s never too late.
Marg’s story is proof that aging doesn’t mean giving up on the things that set our souls on fire. Too often, society places limits on what seniors can or should do, but We Are Young is here to challenge that narrative. We believe that adventure, joy, and possibility have no expiration date. By granting wishes like Marg’s, we’re not just fulfilling dreams—we’re changing the way the world sees aging. For Marg, having this wish granted has given her an increased belief in her ability to achieve other desires, an increased sense of support, and has significantly enhanced her self-confidence. Every wish granted is a powerful reminder that seniors are still vibrant, capable, and deserving of incredible experiences.
